STEP 1 MINIMUM PASSING SCORE TO BE REVIEWED IN DECEMBER 2003 Posted October 1, 2003

The USMLE program recommends a minimum passing score for each Step. Medical licensing authorities may accept the recommended pass/fail result, or they may establish their own minimum passing score. The three-digit score recommended as a requirement to pass USMLE Step 1 was originally identified in 1992. A periodic, in-depth review of this value has been performed by the Step 1 Committee every three to four years since that time. The most recent review, conducted in 2000, resulted in an increase in the recommended minimum passing score to the present value of 182.
The Step 1 Committee is scheduled to assess the minimum passing score at its meeting on December 10-11, 2003. In its review of the minimum passing score, the Step 1 Committee will consider information from multiple sources, including: 1) results of surveys of various groups concerning the appropriateness of current pass/fail standards for Step examinations; 2) recommendations from physicians who will participate in content-based standard-setting activities late in 2003; 3) trends in examinee performance; and 4) score precision and its effect on the pass/fail decision . The decision of the Step 1 Committee will be posted at the USMLE website. If the Committee determines that a change is appropriate, the new recommended minimum passing score will become effective for all examinees who begin their Step 1 examination on or after January 1, 2004.
Step1：考试时间约8小时，共分10门基础课程350题选择，成绩至少在182分以上。(相当于及格分数75分)
基础医学部份： 解剖学anatomy，行为科学behavioral sciences，生物化学biochemistry，微生物学microbiology， 病理学pathology， 药剂学pharmacology， 生理学physiology，营养学nutrition ，遗传学genetics，老人学aging 。
Step1一般分为几个Sections , 每个Sections的长度在30 ~ 60分钟 。每场考试规定的休息时间总共为45分钟，包括午餐 。由考生自行安排 。但只能在Sections之间进行 。如果考生在每一部分中能够提前答完，剩下的时间也可作为休息时间 。60天内不可重考同一Step，一年不可报考同一Step三次，通过的Step不可重新报考，及格成绩可保留七年，考试时间确定后不可更改及退费 。
